Jharsuguda Police Solves Murder Case Within 06 Hours; Two Accused Arrested

Rengali Police has successfully detected a murder case within 06 hours of its registration and arrested two accused persons involved in the offence.

On 24.06.2026, a written report was lodged at Rengali Police Station regarding the death of one Sasthidhar Sahu (38) of Village Khandahata, District Angul, whose dead body was found lying in an agricultural field at Village Sagarpali, Sahupada under Rengali Police Station limits. Based on the report, Rengali P.S. Case No. 177 dated 24.06.2026 was registered under relevant provisions of law and investigation was immediately taken up.

During investigation, scientific evidence was collected with the assistance of the Scientific Officer, DFSL Jharsuguda and Dog Squad. Blood-stained materials and other incriminating exhibits were seized from the spot. The dead body was subjected to post-mortem examination and further investigation was carried out on a war footing.

On the basis of technical inputs, local intelligence and sustained interrogation, police apprehended Tiknu Kishan (44) and Gita Mirdha (40). During investigation, incriminating articles including blood-stained finger rings allegedly used during the assault, blood-stained wearing apparels, a wooden log suspected to be the weapon of offence, and other relevant exhibits were recovered and seized.

Investigation revealed that the deceased and Gita Mirdha had been residing together for several years and had two daughters. Due to frequent domestic disputes, the deceased's alleged alcohol addiction and strained interpersonal relationships, tension had developed between the deceased, Gita Mirdha and co-accused Tiknu Kishan. On the night of 23.06.2026, a quarrel allegedly took place between them, which culminated in the assault and death of Sasthidhar Sahu. Thereafter, the accused persons allegedly shifted the dead body to an agricultural field in an attempt to mislead the investigation and divert suspicion.

Both accused persons have been arrested and forwarded to the Court of JMFC, Lakhanpur on 25.06.2026 under Sections 103(1)/238(a)/3(5) BNS. Further investigation is continuing.
