In a significant breakthrough in CC & EO PS Case No. 14/2026, registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Information Technology Act, 2000, Jharsuguda Police has successfully apprehended a cyber offender from Supaul District of Bihar in connection with creation of a fake social media profile, circulation of obscene photographs and videos of a woman, online harassment, criminal intimidation, and violation of privacy.
The case was registered at Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Police Station, Jharsuguda, following a complaint by a young woman alleging that an unknown person had created a fake Instagram account impersonating her and uploaded her obscene photographs as the profile picture. The accused also sent obscene images, videos, threatening messages, and repeatedly contacted the victim through multiple mobile numbers, causing severe mental trauma and distress.
During investigation, Jharsuguda Police collected digital evidence, obtained records from Meta Platforms, analysed CDRs and subscriber details, and traced the operation to Bihar. A dedicated police team proceeded to Supaul District and successfully apprehended the accused, Md. Rashid (20 years) of Village Sonak, District Supaul, Bihar.
The accused has been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000, relating to stalking, criminal intimidation, violation of privacy, publication and transmission of obscene material in electronic form, and other cyber offences.
Jharsuguda Police reiterates its commitment to protecting women and ensuring a safe cyberspace. Strict legal action will continue against individuals involved in cyber stalking, online harassment, circulation of obscene content, and crimes targeting the dignity and privacy of women.
