The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Debendra Kumar Nayak of Gumadera, Belpahar, alleging that a fake Instagram account was created using his name and profile photograph without his consent. The accused was posting misleading and derogatory content through the fake account, impersonating the complainant and attempting to damage his reputation among friends, relatives.
During investigation, Jharsuguda Cyber Police conducted technical analysis and traced the origin of the fake social media account. Based on digital evidence, the accused Mahamaya Biswal was identified and apprehended.
The accused was arrested and forwarded to the court today. Further investigation of the case is continuing.
Jharsuguda Police reiterates its commitment to take strict action against misuse of social media and cyber offences and advises citizens to report such incidents promptly to the nearest police station or cyber helpline.
