Interstate APK & Fake E-Challan Cyber Fraud Racket Busted by Jharsuguda Police


 Jharsuguda Police has achieved a major breakthrough in an interstate cyber fraud case by successfully busting a sophisticated cyber crime racket involved in APK file and fake e-challan based online financial fraud under Cyber PS Case No. 03/2026.


The case originated from a complaint lodged by Sri Sudhir Kumar Mohanty of Purunabasti, Jharsuguda, who reported unauthorized online transactions amounting to Rs. 6,40,296 from his bank accounts through fraudulent cyber activities.

Acting promptly on the complaint, Cyber Crime Police Station, Jharsuguda registered a case under relevant provisions of BNS and Information Technology Act and immediately launched a scientific and technical investigation. A dedicated special police team was constituted to trace the accused persons, analyse digital evidence and track the financial trail spread across multiple states.

During investigation, extensive technical analysis, bank account scrutiny, cyber intelligence inputs and digital evidence examination revealed the involvement of an organized interstate cyber fraud syndicate operating through malicious APK files and fake traffic e-challan links to gain unauthorized access to victims’ mobile devices and banking credentials.

Based on credible technical leads and sustained interstate follow-up, special teams of Jharsuguda Police conducted raids in Bankura district of West Bengal and successfully apprehended two accused persons namely:

Bamacharan Katari (32), S/o Haru Katari, Vill- Charigram, PS-Indas, Dist- Bankura, West Bengal.

Biswajeet Karmakar (43), S/o Sashanka Sekhar Karmakar, Vill- Kusmudi, PS-Indas, Dist- Bankura, West Bengal.

The accused persons were produced before the Hon’ble Court with prayer for transit remand for further investigation.

Jharsuguda Police also acted swiftly in coordination with various banks, payment gateways and financial institutions across different states and succeeded in freezing substantial defrauded amounts lying in beneficiary accounts linked to the fraud. Due to timely police intervention and effective investigation, an amount of Rs. 2,96,198.73 has already been refunded to the complainant under orders of the Hon’ble Court.

Jharsuguda Police reiterates its firm commitment towards stringent action against cyber criminals and advises citizens not to click on suspicious APK files, fake e-challan links or unknown messages received through SMS, WhatsApp or social media platforms. Citizens are also advised not to install applications from unverified sources or share confidential banking credentials with anyone.
